How to Finish a Basement: Contractors vs. Do-it-Yourself
I’ve lived in my current house for fours years with an unfinished basement. I spent a lot of time learning about how to finish a basement. During my time spent learning about finishing a basement, I determined that the amount of time required to complete the job from start to finish was more than I had available to dedicate to the task. As a full-time marketing professional and avid online publisher, I realized there is not way I’ll have time to complete the task in a reasonable amount of time.
Earlier this winter, I made decision to hire contractors to complete the job. With the current state of the economy and residential contruction industry, I assumed finding contractors to finish a basement in the dead of winter would be an easy task. Using information from friends and family who are contractors, I was able to develop a baseline budget and contractor checklist.
The project is still not complete, but is moving quickly and on budget. I’ll continue to update progress by posting pictures and discuss details of different areas that I’ve found to be a challenging part of how to finish a basement.
